The little secrets of OSB: Do you really know about OSB?
Advantages and Disadvantages of OSB (Oriented Strand Board)
Advantages:
1. Anti-corrosive, anti-termite, anti-deformation, and has strong flame retardancy.
2. Has good waterproof performance and can be exposed to natural and humid environments for a long time.
3. Extremely low formaldehyde emission, making it a truly green and environmentally friendly product.
4. Strong nail-holding power, easy to saw, nail, drill, plane, file, and sand.
5. Very good stability, not easy to crack or deform.
Disadvantages:
1. Poor flatness and smoothness. The flatness and smoothness of the board are relatively poor, and it may feel a bit prickly if not painted. The surface flatness of OSB from different batches may vary.
2. Expensive price. Compared with other man-made boards, the price of OSB is relatively higher.
Tips for Selecting OSB Panels
1. Choose OSB panels with a flat surface and a certain weight when standing on them. Such panels have high pressure resistance during production, with small internal gaps, a dense structure, and better structural strength.
2. The larger the sawn slices of OSB panels, the better. The upper and lower surfaces and the middle layer should be arranged in a crosswise and longitudinal interlaced structure.
3. Check the packaging. Look for the manufacturer's name and trademark on the packaging or label.
4. Check the environmental protection level. OSB panels with a higher environmental protection level have lower formaldehyde content. When choosing OSB panels, also check the free formaldehyde content of the panels to prevent the phenomenon of unscrupulous merchants counterfeiting and passing off inferior products as good ones.
